Kamala Harris, the Vice President, is the daughter of immigrants and climbed the political and law enforcement ladder in California to make history as the first female Vice President in the United States. On Monday, she officially won the Democratic presidential nomination, making her the first woman of color to head a major party ticket.
Over four years since her initial bid for the presidency failed, Harris' nomination as the Democratic Party's candidate marks the end of a turbulent and chaotic period for Democrats, triggered by President Joe Biden's disastrous performance in the June debate which undermined his supporters' belief in his chances for reelection and sparked intense internal party conflicts over whether he should continue in the campaign.
